Mia's Sewing Class

In the summer of 2018, Mia set out to support Little Dresses for Africa, which is a non-profit organization started by Rachel O'Neill from Brownstown, Michigan.  littledressesforafrica.org

In supporting of Little Dresses for Africa, Mia taught free sewing classes to girls in the Lahaina community in exchange for fabric donations. She used the donated fabric to sew the "pillowcase dresses" and sent them to  Africa where they will be distributed to girls ages 3-11.

Why pillowcases? Pillowcases are easily made and are relatively cheap. Due to high taxes on manufactured clothes imported into Africa, the handmade dresses are an ideal project for the Coconut Project's motto: "good things come in small packages."

Below are some pictures of Mia teaching the sewing class and the dresses.
